La 3e étape du Tour de l'Algarve met au programme un contre-la-montre individuel de 19,5 kilomètres, sur un parcours plat utour de la ville de Vilamoura, où les spécialistes de la discipline pourront s'exprimer. Ils seront 165 coureurs à s’élancer, toutes les minutes à partir de 14h11, pour cet exercice de vérité qui pourrait rebattre les cartes du classement général.

Les temps de départ des favoris
Les premiers partants fixeront les premiers repères, mais l’attention se concentrera rapidement sur la seconde moitié de la startlist. À 15h17, Jakob Söderqvist ouvrira le bal des outsiders. À 15h26, l’ancien champion du monde de la spécialité Filippo Ganna s’élancera en grand favori. Il devra néanmoins garder un œil sur des rouleurs aguerris comme Yves Lampaert (15h34) et Stefan Küng (15h45), capables de signer un temps de référence.
Le dénouement s’annonce brûlant. Julian Alaphilippe prendra le départ à 16h38, suivi d’une série de prétendants au général : Thymen Arensman (16h42), Brandon McNulty (16h43), Florian Lipowitz (16h45), Kévin Vauquelin (16h53), Daniel Felipe Martínez (16h55) et Oscar Onley (16h59). La clôture se fera en apothéose avec João Almeida à 17h01, le Français Paul Seixas à 17h03, puis Juan Ayuso à 17h05, dernier homme à s’élancer. Sur un parcours court et nerveux, chaque seconde pèsera lourd dans la lutte pour le classement général.
